My design for the official Class of 2022 Commencement Banner at the University of California, Berkeley was selected from hundreds of submissions through a process involving both popular vote and review by the senior council. It was a distinct honor to have my work serve as the visual identity of the commencement ceremony and be featured in the commencement program during the year of my graduation.
This design features the California Golden Bear, UC Berkeley’s mascot, wearing a graduation cap to represent graduating students and their achievements. It includes the iconic Sather Tower (the Campanile), symbolizing the university’s heritage and legacy. The illuminated University of California motto reflects its guiding values and vision. The Bear walks across a stack of books, representing academic pursuit, excellence, and the student journey. Together, these elements celebrate Berkeley pride, accomplishments, and memories while looking toward a bright future. The design is completed with the rallying cry “GO BEARS!”, capturing the spirit, unity, and energy of the Berkeley community.
제가 졸업한 2022년, 제 디자인은 동급생들의 투표와 졸업반 학생 대표 위원회의 심사를 거쳐 수백 점의 출품작 가운데University of California, Berkeley의 공식 졸업식 배너로 선정되었습니다. 졸업식의 공식 시각적 정체성을 형성하는 작업으로 채택되어 행사 배너와 졸업식 프로그램북에 사용된 것은 저에게 매우 뜻깊은 영광이자 의미 있는 성과였습니다.
이 디자인은 UC 버클리의 마스코트인 캘리포니아 골든 곰이 졸업 모자를 착용하여 졸업생과 그들의성취를 상징하도록 표현하였고 캘리포니아 대학교의 모토 빛을 뿜어내는 대학의 유서 깊은 역사와전통을 상징하는 대표적인 랜드마크인 새더 타워(캠퍼닐)를 등에 업고 책 더미 위를 걷는 모습으로학문에 대한 탐구, 학업적 탁월함, 그리고 학생들의 여정을 상징하는 묘사를 하여 버클리 공동체의자부심, 성취, 그리고 소중한 추억을 기념함과 동시에 밝은 미래를 향해 나아감을 보여준다. 마지막으로 “GO BEARS!”라는 유명한 응원 구호를 통해 버클리 공동체의 정신, 단결, 그리고 열정을 담아낸다.
